Rome – Federer vs Stepanek, Nadal vs Soderling- Live TV

Rome, April 2009: A great day’s tennis yesterday in which we saw Roger and Rafa take their first steps towards a hopeful final!

The big news of course was the ousting of Andy Murray by Juan Monaco – well, Andy’s had a great run this year and perhaps this is just a pause in his momentum towards the top three (or two). I expect the few extra days rest will do him a lot of good, and we’ll see some great tennis from him in the slightly faster courts of Madrid.logointernazionali1

Roger Federer had a tough match, and faced some solid resistance from Karlovic, but his game was steady, and he was able to win easily, 6-4, 6-4.

Rafael Nadal looked even stronger, seeing off Andreas Seppi quickly in an hour and twenty, and with just a minor bump early on with a loss of service before a typically concentrated performance where he left the Italian with no chances whatsoever to get into the game.

Today, we’ll see Federer come on against Radek Stepanek after the tasty looking Robredo vs Djokovic clash. Roger’s game should start at around 5pm local time depending on how long the two previous matches (starting at 1pm) draw out for. The wily Czech knocked Roger out of this same tournament in the quarter finals last year, so this could be quite an interesting challenge and a test of Federer’s focus and determination to get back to clay court final form. Since then they have played three times, always on hard courts, and the Swiss won each time.

Nadal leads out the evening session at 8:30 pm against Robin Soderling at 8:30pm local time. Rafa has a 2-0 record against the Swede and should have few difficulties.

Quite an afternoon of tennis, and please see below the best links we can find at NadalvsFederer.com.
